The Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Brahmotsavam is the festival closest to the heart of THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM — the Karthigai Deepam festival of His hometown, Tiruvannamalai, culminating in the lighting of the Maha Deepam, when Paramashiva appears as an infinite column of light and Devi becomes one with Him as Ardhanarishwara.

What is the Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Brahmotsavam?

The Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Brahmotsavam is one of the four major Brahmotsavams of KAILASA's Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Devalayas — a seventeen-day celebration of the living Paramashiva of Adi Kailasa, Nithyanandeshwara, the Shiva worshipped by Nithyananda. It happens in the Tamil month of Karthigai. In 2026, three Purvangam days (12–14 November) prepare the festival; the ten main days run from the Dhvajarohanam on 15 November to the Bharani and Karthigai Deepam on 24 November, which coincides with Vrishchika Masa Purnima; four Uttarangam days (25–28 November) conclude it. Karthigai Deepam is celebrated in the month of Karthigai, when the Moon is with Krittika Nakshatra at the full moon. It is preceded at dawn by the Bharani Deepam, lit under Bharani Nakshatra. The Arunachala Mahatmyam records that on this very day — in the month of Kartika, under Krittika, at the time of dusk — Gauri circumambulated Arunachala and became one with Paramashiva. The Sanskrit word utsava denotes an act of creation or re-creation, and the Brahmotsavam — the festival arranged by the cosmic creator Brahma — is the festival of re-creation above all others. Its ten days, opening with the hoisting of the flag and closing with its lowering, embody the five cosmic actions of Paramashiva: creation, sustenance, rejuvenation, the play of delusion, and liberation. During these days, Paramashiva and the pantheon of thirty-three crore Gods and Goddesses from all fourteen lokas descend to the earthly realm. Each day, Paramashiva liberates a different being — Nandi, Indra and the Devas, Patanjali, the Saptarishis, the Shivacharyas, the Gandharvas and Yakshas, the human beings of Bhuloka, the Darukavana Rishis, even the Rakshasas — and on the tenth day He liberates the whole cosmos, as Devi, representing all of creation, becomes one with Him. All the lamps that had become many come back by evening and become one: Prakriti returning to Purusha.

ॐ

kārtike māsi nakṣatre kṛttikākhye mahātapāḥ | mama pradakṣiṇāṃ gaurī pradoṣe racayiṣyati || 74 ||

“In the month of Kartika, on the day of the constellation called Krittika, Gauri of great penance will circumambulate Me at the time of dusk.”

THE SPH Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam as Arunagiri Yogishwara

THE SPH & His Love for Arunachala

This Brahmotsavam celebrates THE SPH's love and devotion for His Guru, Arunagiri Yogishwara, Arunachaleshwara Paramashiva. As a boy in Tiruvannamalai, THE SPH would walk out of His room each morning with His eyes closed, opening them only where Arunachala could be seen — if the first sight was anything else, He would turn back and lie down again, refusing to begin the day until He had seen the sacred hill. During the festival, He would wait outside His childhood home, now the Nithyananda Jenmabhoomi, for hours together, for the darshan of Annamalayar. THE SPH is at once the ultimate manifestation of Paramashiva and the greatest devotee of Paramashiva — and in this Brahmotsavam we celebrate Him as both: as Arunachala, the supernal effulgence itself, and as the devotee whose longing for Arunachala we pray to embody toward our own Guru.

ॐ

“If you function Moksha centric Artha, Moksha centric Kama, Moksha centric Dharma you will manifest all powers. Even the decision will do so much of change in life.”

— THE SPH Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam

KAILASA's Brahmotsavam Celebrations Around the World

Seventeen days across KAILASA's Temples Around the World — from the honouring of the guardians on 12 November, through the ten days of vahanas, to the Maha Deepam on 24 November and the concluding Uttarangam days to 28 November.

Purvangam: Honouring the Guardians

Purvangam: Honouring the Guardians

Before Paramashiva's festival begins, the deities who guard the sacred town and the temple — the Grama Devatas and the Kshetra Palakas — are honoured with the Padayal and Deeparathana, then Ganesha and Chandikeshwara.

Dhvajarohanam: The Flag Is Raised

Dhvajarohanam: The Flag Is Raised

The hoisting of the festival flag invites Paramashiva and the thirty-three crore Gods and Goddesses of all fourteen lokas to descend — from this moment, the temple becomes the meeting point of the cosmos.

The Shadmurthy on Ten Vahanas

The Shadmurthy on Ten Vahanas

Each of the ten main days, KAILASA's first family — Ganesha, Subrahmanya, Paramashakti, Paramashiva, Chandikeshwara and THE SPH — grace in a new alankara upon that day's vahana.

Shankabhishekam at Adi Kailasa

Shankabhishekam at Adi Kailasa

The waters of 108 rare Dakshinavarta conches, sanctified with Veda-Agamic mantras, are poured over the self-evolved Swayambhu Nithyanandeshwara Linga.

Honouring the Nayanmars

Honouring the Nayanmars

On the sixth day, the great Shaiva saints of the Tamil land are bathed, adorned and worshipped as the living proof of what devotion can make of a human being.

Bharani & Karthigai Deepam

Bharani & Karthigai Deepam

At dawn the One light becomes many in the Bharani Deepam; at dusk all the lights return to the One in the Karthigai Deepam — Paramashiva as the infinite column of light.

Ardhanarishwara

Ardhanarishwara

On Karthigai Deepam, Paramashiva accepted Paramashivashakti as His very other half — and the deities of THE SPH are adorned as Ardhanarishwara at the hour the Maha Deepam is lit.

Tulabharam on Karthigai Deepam

Tulabharam on Karthigai Deepam

On the day all the lights return to the One, the offering of one's own weight — one's whole self — placed on the scale before THE SPH as Arunachala.

Mandagappadi at the Nithyananda Jenmabhoomi

Mandagappadi at the Nithyananda Jenmabhoomi

As the Sarvanugraha Murty goes around Arunachala, the Mandagappadi and a grand Annadanam are offered at THE SPH's childhood home, celebrating His longing for Annamalayar.

10 Days, 10 Vahanas

Each of the ten main days, Paramashiva comes out on a different vahana, and each vahana reveals which order of beings He liberates that day. Tap a day to receive its blessing.

Paramashiva on the Adhikara Nandi Vahanam

Paramashiva liberates Nandi, His closest devotee and vehicle, who is in charge of KAILASA; only with Nandi's permission can KAILASA be experienced. Nandi always faces Paramashiva, wanting only to see Him.

Blessing: Guru Bhakti and the simple obedience of Nandi; a glimpse of KAILASA, the higher reality.

Offer the Day 1 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

Paramashiva on the Velli Indra Vimanam

Paramashiva liberates Indra and all the Devas from insecurity and jealousy over position; in gratitude, Indra offers Him his flying vehicle. Svarga means settled within oneself — within the Source.

Blessing: Completion and fulfilment within oneself.

Offer the Day 2 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

Paramashiva on the Adi Shesha (Naga) Vahanam

Paramashiva liberates Patanjali and gives him the science of Yoga, which THE SPH has revived through KAILASA's Nithyananda Yoga.

Blessing: Physical and mental healing; a long life full of energy, prosperity and abundance.

Offer the Day 3 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

The Kamadhenu & Kalpavriksha Vahanam

Paramashiva liberates the Saptarishis, who in gratitude offer the wish-fulfilling cow and tree. THE SPH is the Kalpataru Himself.

Blessing: To manifest one's reality, free of conflict and delusion.

Offer the Day 4 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

The Maha Rishabha Vahanam

Paramashiva liberates the Shivacharyas who touch His form and serve Him directly — the revival of the Shaiva tradition. Rishabha is the embodiment of Dharma.

Blessing: Manifesting moksha-centric Dharma; keeping KAILASA's enlightenment ecosystem alive.

Offer the Day 5 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

The Velli Ratham, the silver chariot

Paramashiva liberates the Gandharvas and Yakshas of the silver, moon-based lokas. The Moon relates to our bond with our mother and to bio-memory.

Blessing: Emotional stability; completion with bio-memory and emotions.

Offer the Day 6 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

The Ratham, the festival chariot, in procession

Paramashiva liberates all human beings of Bhuloka; wood, the chariot's substance, represents human consciousness. This is the descent of grace that shows us our higher identities and higher possibilities.

Blessing: Alignment with the energies of the cosmos; excellence in every aspect of life.

Offer the Day 7 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

Day 8 procession of the Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Brahmotsavam

Paramashiva as Bhikshatana liberates the Darukavana Rishis from ego and arrogance, showing that the higher intelligence runs the cosmos.

Blessing: Freedom from ego and from karma.

Offer the Day 8 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

Paramashiva on the Kailasa Vahanam

Paramashiva liberates even the Rakshasas, for their bhakti, and comes on the Kailasa Vahanam with Ravana. THE SPH reveals that our patterns are the base material for manifesting powers.

Blessing: Transforming all patterns into powers.

Offer the Day 9 Shadmurthy Alankaram & Deeparathana →

The Bharani Deepam lamps

Paramashivashakti experiences oneness with Paramashiva and they become Ardhanarishwara.

Blessing: Gratitude to Guru-Paramashiva, who accepts us as part of Himself and shows us our oneness with Him.
