Padayal Seva & Deeparathana for Mariamman & Durgaiamman

On the first Purvangam day, the protective Mother Goddesses Mariamman and Durgaiamman are honoured with the Padayal and Deeparathana, so that the Brahmotsavam unfolds under Their protection.

Before Paramashiva's festival begins, the tradition first honours the deities who guard the sacred town and the temple. On Purvangam Day 1 of KAILASA's Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Brahmotsavam 2026, Mariamman and Durgaiamman — the protective Mother Goddesses of the Tamil land — receive the Padayal Seva and Deeparathana across KAILASA's Temples Around the World.

Significance

Durgaiamman and Mariamman are forms of Paramashivashakti who guard the boundaries of the sacred town, protect its people from disease and calamity, and are honoured first so that the festival of Paramashiva may proceed under Their protection. Worshipping Them at the start of the Brahmotsavam is also worshipping THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM as Paramashivashakti — the same Mother whose grace settled Him into His body.

The Ritual

Following the abhishekam of Durgaiamman and Mariamman, the Padayal is offered — a spread of traditionally cooked dishes laid before the Goddesses as naivedya — followed by the Deeparathana.
