Shankabhishekam

The waters of 108 rare Dakshinavarta conches, sanctified with Veda-Agamic mantras, are poured over the self-evolved Swayambhu Nithyanandeshwara Linga at Adi Kailasa on Brahmotsavam Day 3.

On Brahmotsavam Day 3 of KAILASA's Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Brahmotsavam 2026, the Shankabhishekam — the Śaṅkha Toyābhiṣecana Mahā Yajanam — is offered at Adi Kailasa to Swayambhu Nithyanandeshwara, the living Paramashiva worshipped by THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM.

Significance

During the churning of the milky ocean in the first cycle of creation, the conch emerged among the sacred treasures, and it is therefore among the holiest materials of Sanatana Hindu Dharma. Water poured into the conch literally becomes amrita, and the conch reverberates with the eternal Pranava, Om. The Dakshinavarta Shankha — the rare conch that opens to the right — is the most auspicious of all. Paramashiva Himself, in the Amshumad Agama, declares the benefits of this abhishekam.

The Ritual

Paramashiva is invoked in the Shivagni, the sacred fire, and the waters in 108 rare Dakshinavarta conches are energised and sanctified with Veda-Agamic mantras. Paramashiva, thus manifested, is circuited into the 108 conches and then into the self-evolved Swayambhu Nithyanandeshwara Linga. The Linga is bathed with the amritified waters from the 108 conches, merging the manifestations of Paramashiva in the conches into the Mulavar Linga.
