Deepavali is not only the festival of lights — in KAILASA, it is the Incarnationhood Anniversary of THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM, the day Mother Kali settled Paramashiva into His body and the first blessing, "Anandamaga Irungal — Be Blissful," was given to the world.

From Dhanteras on 6 November to Tula Masa Amavasya on 9 November 2026, KAILASA's Temples Around the World celebrate THE SPH as Mahalakshmi, Kubera and Dhanvantari, offer the Chandi Homa and Kali Puja in gratitude to the Cosmic Mother, raise the Annakut — the mountain of food — and complete the festival with the Tulabharam and the Maheshwara Puja for our ancestors.

What is Deepavali?

Deepavali is not only the festival of lights — in KAILASA, it is the Incarnationhood Anniversary of THE SPH, the day Mother Kali settled Paramashiva into His body and the first blessing, "Anandamaga Irungal — Be Blissful," was given to the world. The festival opens with Dhanteras. Dhan Trayodashi falls on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight of Kartika, marking the beginning of the five-day Deepavali festivities. It is dedicated to Dhanvantari, the deity of Ayurveda and health, who emerged from the churning of the ocean of milk carrying the pot of amrita, along with precious treasures including gold. Dhanteras is the day on which wealth itself is worshipped: in KAILASA, we celebrate the Guru as the embodiment of all wealth, and THE SPH as Mahalakshmi, Kubera and Dhanvantari in one living form. Gold offered on Dhanteras is not merely a possession; it represents the energy of wealth and well-being. When we offer on this day, we invoke divine blessings for health, wealth and success, and we express gratitude for the abundance already received — remembering always that wealth is meant for higher purposes, aligned with dharma and seva. Naraka Chaturdashi — also called Choti Diwali or Naraka Nivarana Chaturdashi — falls on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, the day before Deepavali, and is dedicated to the worship of the cosmic energies that shower spiritual growth and enlightenment: Chandika Parameshwari and Kali. From time immemorial, a long chain of auspicious events has happened on Deepavali: Parashakti Mahakali appeared and made Herself available to the universe, Narakasura was liberated by Sri Krishna, Mahabali was sent to Patala by Mahavishnu as Vamana, and Devi Parvati completed Her Kedara Gauri Vrata.

The Incarnationhood Anniversary — THE SPH & Mother Kali

At the age of twelve, the young SPH realised His Paramashivatva and had His first experience of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. In the year 2000, THE SPH realised His Avataratva and was eternally established in Nirvikalpa Samadhi; with that happening, His divine body entered the Great Pause, remaining in continuous samadhi for about nine months. On the day of Deepavali, by the grace of the Cosmic Mother, Devi Kali, His body settled so that it could relate to human logic — and out of the eternal bliss, the first words came: "Anandamaga Irungal" — "Be Blissful." An enlightened being can settle in the body only by the grace of Parashakti; it is by Her grace that we are able to experience, enjoy and relate with THE SPH within the frame of human logic. This is why KAILASA's Temples Around the World offer the Chandi Homa and Kali Puja on this night, in gratitude to Paramashivashakti for giving us THE SPH. Deepavali is the day Paramashiva started manifesting in the very body of THE SPH as Paramashivashakti. Who we experience today as Nithyananda is Paramashivashakti's boon to the world. Every seva of these days — the Chandi Homa, the Kali Puja, the Pada Puja, the Annakut — is offered to Devi and to THE SPH together, because on this day they cannot be separated.

ॐ

“Giving liberation is Sadāshiva's responsibility, but choosing through which body She wants to manifest and do the Avataric mission is Adishakti's responsibility. So now who you are experiencing as Nithyananda, is Adishakti's boon to the world.”

— THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM

ॐ

“The word Deepa means ability to see beyond. It is not just light. When you light a deepa in your heart, the ability to see beyond starts happening. All our suffering is because we stop with just seeing what we see. We don't see beyond what is seen. Whatever you see is seeing, if you can see beyond what is seen, that is when you are enlightened, the jnana deepa awakens in you. Then you can celebrate deepavali. The real deepavali is the ability to see beyond what you see.”

Dhanteras — Kubera Lakshmi Puja & Sri Suktha Homa

Chandi Homa — Both Kaalams

On the night of Naraka Chaturdashi the Chandi Homa begins, and the second kaalam continues into Deepavali day — the 700 mantras of the Devi Mahatmyam offered in gratitude to Paramashivashakti for giving us THE SPH.

Kali Puja & Kali Pratima

Kali Puja & Kali Pratima

On Deepavali, Mother Kali's energy is fully available to planet Earth — the energy that landed in the body of THE SPH after the Great Pause. The Kali Puja and the Kali Pratima are our gratitude to the Mother who gave us THE SPH.

Tula Masa Amavasya Maheshwara Puja

On the Amavasya of Tula Masa, annam is offered to Maheshwara — Paramashiva as the Guru — for our departed ancestors, so that they too receive the blessing of Deepavali.

Why Deepavali Is Sacred

From time immemorial, a long chain of auspicious events has happened on Deepavali. Tap an event to read more.

Parashakti Mahakali Appears to the Universe

From time immemorial, Deepavali is the day Parashakti Mahakali appeared and made Herself available to the universe. Mother Kali is the Cosmic Energy itself — the alive, creative, motherly darkness out of whom the whole cosmos has manifested. On Deepavali, Her energy is fully available to planet Earth, and KAILASA's Temples offer the Kali Puja in gratitude to the Mother who gave us THE SPH.

Sri Krishna Liberates Narakasura

Naraka Chaturdashi — also called Choti Diwali or Naraka Nivarana Chaturdashi — falls on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, the day before Deepavali. Among the auspicious events that have happened at Deepavali from time immemorial, Narakasura was liberated by Sri Krishna. The day is dedicated to the worship of the cosmic energies that shower spiritual growth and enlightenment — Chandika Parameshwari and Kali.

Offer the Chandi Homa →

Vamana and Mahabali

Deepavali also remembers the day Mahabali was sent to Patala by Mahavishnu as Vamana — one of the long chain of auspicious events that have happened on this day from time immemorial, celebrated with the lighting of lamps in every home and temple.

Devi Parvati Completes the Kedara Gauri Vrata

Deepavali is the day Devi Parvati completed Her Kedara Gauri Vrata — the Mother's own vow, fulfilled on the festival of lights. It is one more reason this day is dedicated to Devi, to Paramashivashakti, in all Her forms.

THE SPH's Incarnationhood — "Anandamaga Irungal"

In the year 2000, THE SPH's divine body entered the Great Pause, remaining in continuous samadhi for about nine months. On the day of Deepavali, by the grace of Mother Kali, His body settled so that it could relate to human logic — and the first words came: "Anandamaga Irungal" — "Be Blissful." Every seva of these days is offered to Devi and to THE SPH together.

Offer the Pratyaksha Pada Puja →

Dhanteras — Lakshmi & Kubera

Dhan Trayodashi opens the five days of Deepavali and is dedicated to Dhanvantari, who emerged from the churning of the ocean of milk carrying the pot of amrita, along with precious treasures including gold. Lakshmi bestows wealth and Kubera holds and protects it; on Dhanteras they are worshipped together, with THE SPH as the one in whom both are present.
