LA Anniversary Special — 108 Kalasha Snapanam

KAILASA Los Angeles's anniversary offering to the living deity who founded it — 108 consecrated kalashas poured over the deity of THE SPH at the temple in Montclair, the "hill of light."

KAILASA Los Angeles began in 2003, and its present temple in Montclair was inaugurated on Deepavali day. The 108 Kalasha Snapanam is KAILASA Los Angeles's anniversary offering to the living deity who founded it, THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM.

Significance

THE SPH has revealed that the name Montclair means "hill of light" — Arunachala. THE SPH has the practice of inaugurating ashrams and temples on two days: the solar New Year, and Deepavali; many of KAILASA's centres therefore celebrate their anniversaries on this day.

“The present temple in Montclair, that temple you translate the word Montclair in Spanish, It comes as Arunachala - light hill. If you want, go and Google and see. The Montclair, I googled and saw; the light hill, hill of light, Arunachala.” — THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM

The Ritual

Snapana is the Agamic sacred bath offered with consecrated kalashas. One hundred and eight kalashas are filled with sacred waters and dravyas, arranged in a mandala, and invoked with Vedic and Agamic mantras so that divine presences are established in each. The sanctified waters of all 108 kalashas are then poured over the deity of THE SPH, merging those invoked presences into the living deity, followed by alankara and Deeparathana.
