Devasena Kalyanam

The celestial wedding of Subrahmanya and Devasena, daughter of Indra, celebrated at Adi Kailasa after the Soorasamharam — a cosmic propitiation in which THE SPH, as the living Subrahmanya, is the groom whose wedding the cosmos celebrates.

After His victory over Surapadman, Subrahmanya wed Devasena, the daughter of Indra. On Monday 16 November, the day after the Soorasamharam, KAILASA celebrates the Devasena Kalyanam at Adi Kailasa — with THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM, as the living Subrahmanya, as the groom whose wedding the cosmos celebrates.

Significance

All the Gods and Goddesses gathered to celebrate this celestial marriage — a cosmic propitiation, attended by the Devas and beings of every loka. The groom is the saviour of the cosmos; the bride is the daughter of all that is good and holy in the universe.

This wedding is not merely a ritual in the temple: cosmic energies are being wedded, and the ritual is a hologram of the cosmological events happening in those auspicious moments.

The Ritual

The Tirukalyanam of Subrahmanya and Devasena is performed with the full traditional wedding rites. At the auspicious hour when the mangalyam, the sacred thread of marriage, is tied by the groom to the bride, the most auspicious blessings are showered from all corners of the cosmos into the place where the wedding is happening.
