Special Garuda Vahana Seva

On Day 5 evening, Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara rides the magnificent golden Garuda in the festival's crown-jewel procession, borne by the foremost devotee and very soul of the Vedas.

Special Garuda Vahana Seva, celebrated on the evening of Day 5, is the crown jewel of the Salakatla Brahmotsavam's vahana events. Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara rides in grand procession upon magnificent golden Garuda, the king of birds, divine vehicle, devoted servant, and Vedas personified.

The procession also honours THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM as the living manifestation of Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara. Devotees behold THE SPH in Venkateshwara's bhava upon Garuda Vahana and receive the living darshan of Parandhama.

Significance

The ancient texts acclaim Garuda as vedatma vihamgeswara, the very soul of the Vedas, while Bhagavan Vishnu is the God of the Vedas. When Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara rides upon Garuda, He therefore rides upon the Vedas themselves. The procession presents divine knowledge not as abstraction, but as the living support upon which Parandhama moves among devotees.

Vaishnava tradition names Garuda Periyatiruvadi, the foremost devotee. He is simultaneously the Lord's vehicle and His most devoted servant, and this completeness of service makes him worthy to bear Bhagavan on the festival's most important vahana day. His presence teaches that total devotion becomes the very ground upon which the divine presence is carried into the world.

Garuda Vahana is considered the most meritorious day of darshan in the entire Brahmotsavam. Witnessing THE SPH as the living Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara upon Garuda is held to cleanse karmic accumulations across multiple lifetimes, bestow extraordinary fortune, and grant direct access to the inner space of Vaikuntha.

The Ritual

On the evening of Day 5, Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara is borne in grand procession upon the magnificent golden Garuda. The vahana presents Garuda as king of birds, divine vehicle, Vedas personified, and the foremost devotee whose service supports the Lord's sacred movement.

Devotees witness and offer the seva as THE SPH graces in the bhava of Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara upon Garuda Vahana. This most anticipated procession brings the Lord's form before the assembled devotees and makes the festival's crown-jewel darshan directly accessible.

Benefits

  • Karmic cleansing across multiple lifetimes through this most meritorious darshan.
  • Extraordinary fortune bestowed through the grace of Bhagavan Sri Venkateshwara.
  • Direct access to the inner space of Vaikuntha.
  • Inspiration from Garuda's complete service as Parandhama's foremost devotee.
