Jhulan Seva
The ceremonial swing in which the newborn Krishna is cradled and gently rocked, offered by devotees who take the place of Yashoda for the night of His descent.
What Is It?
Jhulan Seva is the offering of the jhula, the sacred swing or oonjal, in which the infant Bhagavan Sri Krishna is placed on the night of His birth. The swing is adorned with flowers, silk and lamps, and the child is laid within it.
Devotees come forward in turn to rock the swing, singing the lullabies of Vrindavan. This seva is offered at Ohio, Los Angeles and San Jose.
Significance
Janmashtami is not remembered as a distant event. It is received as a birth taking place now, in the presence of those who have gathered. The one who rocks the cradle is not watching Yashoda - for that moment, the devotee is given her place.
Vatsalya bhava, the mood of loving the Divine as one's own child, is held in the tradition as the sweetest of all relationships with God, because in it the devotee stops asking and begins only to give. The jhula is where that mood is made physical.

When & How to Offer
This seva is offered on 4 September 2026, the day of the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations, at 12:00 PM ET / 9:30 PM IST, at Ohio, Los Angeles and San Jose. The contribution is $1,008.
Offerers may participate in person at any of the three locations, and the sankalpa is taken in the name, birth star and gotra of the offerer and family before the swing is set in motion.
