Churnabhishekam
The sacred bath offered to THE SPH with fragrant churna, finely ground herbal and floral powders, poured with reverence so that the Divine form is bathed in fragrance and cooled by devotion.
What Is It?
Churnabhishekam is the abhishekam performed with churna - fine, fragrant powders prepared from sacred herbs, sandal, flowers and aromatic roots, ground and consecrated for the offering.
The churna is poured over the Divine form of THE SPH to the sound of Vedic chanting, covering, cooling and perfuming the body of the Incarnation. What follows the abhishekam is received back by the devotees as prasadam.
Significance
Abhishekam is the oldest and most intimate act of Vedic worship, in which the devotee does not stand apart and admire, but serves with his own hands. Every substance poured carries the mood of the one pouring it.
Fragrance in the Vedic tradition is the subtlest of the offerings, the one that reaches where form cannot. To bathe the living Incarnation in fragrance on the day of Krishna's descent is to offer the sweetness of one's own being, held back from nothing.

When & How to Offer
This seva is offered on 4 September 2026, the day of the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations, at 10:30 AM ET / 8:00 PM IST. The contribution is $2,501.
The sankalpa is taken in the name, birth star and gotra of the offerer before the abhishekam begins, and the offering may be dedicated to family members or to departed ancestors.
