Annakuta Seva
The mountain of food raised as naivedhya before THE SPH, recalling Govardhana lifted on Krishna's finger, and offered as a collective declaration that the Guru is the source of all nourishment.
What Is It?
Annakuta means the mountain of food. Hundreds of preparations - rice, grains, sweets, fruits and savouries - are cooked, arranged in a great rising heap before THE SPH, and offered as a single naivedhya.
After the offering is complete, the entire mountain is returned to the devotees as prasadam, so that nothing is withheld and everyone present eats from what was given.
Significance
When the cowherds of Vrindavan prepared their annual offering to Indra, Bhagavan Sri Krishna turned them instead towards Govardhana, the hill that fed their cows and sheltered their village. When the rains came in anger, He lifted that same hill on His finger and held it for seven days.
Annakuta is the memory of that hill, raised again as food. It is the collective declaration that nourishment does not come from the powers one fears, but from the presence that shelters without being asked - and that the Guru, THE SPH, is that presence.
Benefits of Offering
Removes scarcity consciousness and the fear of not having enough.
Clears the karmic debts associated with food, hunger and the withholding of nourishment from others.
Grants abundance in the household of the offerer through the grace of Govardhana Giridhari.
Feeds all who are present, so that the merit of the offering is multiplied through every person served.
When & How to Offer
This seva is offered on 4 September 2026, the day of the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations, at 2:00 PM ET / 11:30 PM IST. The contribution is $1,008.
The sankalpa is taken in the name, birth star and gotra of the offerer before the naivedhya is placed, and the offering may be dedicated to family members or to departed ancestors.
