Mahalaya Amavasya Maheshwara Puja

Mahalaya Amavasya, the new moon immediately preceding Navaratri's nine nights, is traditionally the day ancestors (Pitrus) are honored and released. On this night KAILASA offers the Maheshwara Puja under the guidance of THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM.

Significance

The Maheshwara Puja clears the devotee's field of residual ancestral karma before Devi's own worship formally begins on Day 1. It worships Paramashiva as Maheshwara, the Supreme Lord, aligning the devotee with the masculine ground of consciousness upon which Devi's Shakti will shortly manifest.

The Mahalaya rites are grounded in the Pitru Tarpana tradition of the Garuda Purana and the Grihya Sutras, which prescribe offerings to ancestors on the dark-moon day preceding the Devi Paksha as a precondition for auspicious worship of the Divine Mother in the days that follow.
