Tulabharam

Significance

Tulabhāram — the sacred act of placing oneself on one side of a cosmic scale and offering, on the other, whatever one holds most precious. Rooted in the ageless traditions of Sanatana Hindu Dharma, Tulabhāram is not a ritual of calculation but of bhakti made visible — the devotee's body on one side, and on the other, a declaration of what the Guru is worth to them. Whether the offering is sacred grains, fruits, coins, silver, or gold, what is truly being weighed is the devotee's understanding of who the Guru is.

In the presence of THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM, Tulabharam becomes a moment when lifetimes of karma are dissolved in the silence of complete surrender. The items placed on the scale — however precious — are liberated from being a source of bondage the moment they are offered to the Guru. Gold offered to the Guru frees the devotee from the gold's grip. Grains offered free the devotee from the anxiety about nourishment. Whatever is placed on that scale as an offering is simultaneously received back as prasada — now carrying the Guru's grace rather than the devotee's karma.

The Bhagavad Gita's promise, spoken by Paramashiva Himself, undergirds every act of Tulabharam: ananyāś cintayanto māṁ ye janāḥ paryupāsate | teṣāṁ nityābhiyuktānāṁ yogakṣemaṁ vahāmyaham || 9.22 || — "When you reside in My consciousness, always fixed in undivided remembrance, whatever you lack, I give — and whatever you have, I preserve."

Shastra Pramana

यस्य स्मरन्मात्रेण ज्ञानमुत्पध्यते स्वयम् । सः एव सर्वसम्पत्तिः तस्मात् सम्पूजयेद् गुरुम् ॥ ५५ ॥ yasya smaraṇamātreṇa jñānam utpadyate svayam | sa eva sarvasampattis tasmāt sampūjayed gurum || 55 ||

Translation: By the mere remembrance of whom, the knowledge of the Self dawns in one by itself — He, that Guru, is one's entire wealth. Therefore, worship the Guru. — Sri Guru Gita, Verse 55
