Vastu Shanti Homa — Purvangam Day 3 (19 Jul)

Significance

The Vastu Shanti Homa is the sacred fire ritual that propitiates Vastu Purusha — the cosmic being who presides over all built and consecrated space — together with the Ashta Dikpalas (the eight guardians of the directions) and the deities of the elements. According to the Vastu Shastra and the Agamic tradition, every space possesses a living energetic grid, and the Vastu Purusha Mandala maps the divine presences seated within it. Before any great sacred undertaking, the space must be purified, harmonized, and aligned so that it becomes a fit vessel for the descent of cosmic energies.

Offered on the third and final day of the Purvangam, this homa sanctifies the very ground of the brahmotsavam — the Yagnashala, the temple, and the entire festival precinct — dissolving all vastu doshas (energetic imbalances and obstructions in the space) and establishing perfect cosmic alignment across all directions. The Ritual

The priests draw the Vastu Purusha Mandala and invoke Vastu Purusha along with the eight directional guardians (Dikpalas) and the deities of the five elements into the consecrated Agni Kunda. Oblations of ghee, grains, navadhanya, and sacred samit are offered into the fire with the appropriate Vedic and Agamic mantras directed toward each quarter, balancing and pacifying the energetic grid of the space and removing every vastu dosha before the main festival begins.
