The offering of the 1,000 sacred names of Devi Lalita Tripura Sundari into the fire — the highest act of worship in the Shakta tradition — offered in honour of the Shyamalapeetha and Devi Meenakshi.
Significance
The Lalita Sahasranama is the most complete, most sacred hymn of Devi worship in the entire tradition — 1,000 names of Devi Lalita Tripura Sundari, revealed by the eight Vag Devis to the sage Agastya, and encoded in the Brahmanda Purana. Each name is a complete mantra; each mantra is a complete universe; and the totality of the 1,000 names maps the entire field of creation, maintenance, and dissolution as the body of Devi. To chant these 1,000 names into the sacred fire is to offer Devi's own cosmic body back to Her — the highest act of worship possible within the Shakta tradition.
The Shyamalapeetha Sarvajnapeetha is the kingdom of Meenakshi-Sundareshwara, the supreme Shakti in Her most radiant and sovereign form. The Lalita Sahasranama Homa offered on this day is the most complete possible offering to Her: every one of Her 1,000 names burning in the sacred fire, every syllable a universe offered back to its source. Devotees who participate receive the complete grace of Lalita Tripura Sundari — abundance in all dimensions, beauty in all expressions, and liberation through the realization that they are inseparable from Devi Herself.
The Ritual
The priests chant the 1,000 sacred names of Devi Lalita Tripura Sundari while offering 1,000 oblations into the energized Agni Kunda — each name a complete mantra, each oblation offering Devi's own cosmic body back to Her. The atmosphere vibrates with pure maternal love, purifying the subtle energy channels (Nadis) of all participants in this highest act of Shakta worship.

ajñāna-timirāndhasya jñāna-anjanaśalākayā | cakṣurunmīlitaṁ yena tasmai śrigurave namaḥ | 59 |
Translation: Surrender to that Sri Guru, who with the collyrium stick of wisdom shows the supreme state of Brahman to the one blinded by the darkness of ignorance.

The Sacred Story
When the demon Bhandasura arose from the ashes of Kamadeva, he ruled the world with dry, inauthentic forgetfulness, paralyzing the hearts of all living beings. The gods performed a massive sacrifice, and from the fire altar of pure consciousness (Chidagni Kunda), Devi Lalita Tripura Sundari emerged in Her magnificent, compassionate form. She defeated Bhandasura with the arrows of love, beauty, and joy. This illustrates that the Guru's maternal grace destroys the demon of forgetfulness, restoring authenticity to the devotee's life.
