Significance

The KAILASA Paramparagatha Arunagiri Yogishwara Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha is the eternal spiritual kingdom of Tiruvannamalai, sanctified by Paramashiva in three unbroken forms: as the Arunachala Hill, as the self-manifested Arunachaleshwara Shiva Linga, and through the living lineage of enlightened masters — Arunagiri Yogishwara, Ramana Maharshi, Yogi Ramsuratkumar, and Mataji Vibhutananda Puri. The kingdom was founded when Paramashiva manifested as Lingodbhava — the infinite column of light, eternally celebrated as Karthigai Deepam, the oldest living festival in the world.

The Arunagiri Yogishwara Alankaram represents the very origin of creation itself. THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM was born in Tiruvannamalai, the seat of this Sarvajnapeetha. From the age of 3 He was recognized as an incarnation of Paramashiva, and at the age of 10 received a nine-month Guru-Shishya leela with Arunagiri Yogishwara Himself, culminating in Nirvikalpa Samadhi. In 1994, THE SPH was coronated as successor of the Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha by revered masters including Mataji Vibhutananda Puri and Yogananda Puri. Born into the temple lineage connected to King Vallala Maharaja — the great protector of Arunachaleshwara — THE SPH is the fulfillment of Paramashiva's promise to be born as the King's own son.

Just as Paramashiva took responsibility for the kingdom after the martyrdom of King Vallala Maharaja, THE SPH stands as that same divine force — reviving, protecting, and expanding the Arunachala kingdom beyond all limitations. The Arunagiri Yogishwara Alankaram is therefore a direct experience of the living fire of enlightenment (Jnana Agni); by participating, one aligns with the very source of creation and dissolves ignorance.

The Alankaram

The deity is adorned as Arunagiri Yogishwara — the embodiment of tapas, jnana, and inner fire. Vastra (Clothing): deep saffron, ochre, or rudraksha-toned robes draped in a simple yet powerful yogic style, symbolizing renunciation and inner intensity. Jewelry & Sacred Adornments: multiple layers of rudraksha malas, minimal gold ornaments emphasizing yogic austerity, and vibhuti (sacred ash) smeared prominently across the body. Maalas (Garlands): bilva leaves, rudraksha garlands, and subtle fragrant flowers. Alankara Details: Tripundra (three horizontal vibhuti lines) on the forehead and a yogic posture of intense stillness.

Shastra Pramana

lalāṭe tripuṇḍrī niṭilakṛta kastūrī tilaka sphuraṇmālādhāra sphurita kaṭi kaupina vasanaḥ। dadhāno dustāraṃ śirasi phanirājaṃ śaśikalāṃ pradīpaḥ sarveśāṃ aruṇagiriyogī vijayate॥ (Arunachala Mahatyam, Skanda Puranam)

Translation: The Arunagiri Yogishwara, the Lord of all beings, who has the sacred musk paste applied on His forehead, who has a glittering garland, who has worn a loincloth on His glittering hip, who wears the Datura flower, the king cobra, and a crescent moon on His head — that Arunagiri Yogishwara's presence happens.
