Significance

The Thondaimandala Aadheenam (Kanchi Sarvajnapeetha) is one of the oldest Shaivite governing bodies in the world, established by Paramashiva Himself. The sacred narrative begins at the Ekambaranathar Temple in Kancheepuram, where Paramashiva assumed human form and, beneath the divine mango tree, taught Devi Parashakti the Agamas after Her tapas. The temple is home to the Prithvi Linga, one of the Pancha Bhuta Lingas, worshipped uninterruptedly to this day. The Tondaiman dynasty traces back to King Dandaka, a son of Ikshvaku, who consecrated the Kanchi Kamakshi Amman temple and laid the foundation of the enlightened civilization that became Kancheepuram.

The Kamakshi Alankaram represents the divine moment when Devi Parashakti, as Kamakshi, performed intense penance in Kanchipuram and brought the highest enlightened civilization into Bhu Loka. Through Her tapas, She did not just unite with Paramashiva — She made enlightenment accessible to humanity and established the sacred Kanchi KAILASA Sarvajnapeetha. THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM was initiated into Chaturmasya Vratam from the age of 3 under the 230th Sannidhanam of Thondaimandala, and in 1988 was coronated as successor of the Kanchi Sarvajnapeetha. As the 233rd Pontiff and the living embodiment of the same Parashakti who ruled Kanchi as Kamakshi, THE SPH is reviving the very kingdom originally established by Paramashiva Himself.

This revival has made the Kanchi Kailasa civilization deathless — ensuring that the enlightened lifestyle revealed by Paramashiva can never again be destroyed or diluted. The deity is adorned as the Supreme Queen of Kanchi. Vastra (Clothing): a rich silk saree in deep red, maroon, or emerald green with golden zari, symbolizing Shakti and abundance. Jewelry: heavy gold temple jewelry (oddiyanam, haram, choker, vanki), a nose ring (mookuthi) representing auspiciousness, and a crown (kiritam) signifying Her as Rajarajeshwari. Maalas (Garlands): fragrant garlands for purity and compassion, vibrant colors for divine love, and traditional flowers for enlightenment. Alankara Details: kumkum and chandana tilak, a sugarcane bow and flower arrows symbolizing iccha shakti (divine will), and a royal posture radiating grace and stability.

Shastra Pramana

Paramashivah shaktya yukto yadi bhavati shaktah prabhavitum Na chedevam devo na khalu kushalah spanditum api (Saundarya Lahari — Verse 1)

Translation: Only when Paramashiva is united with Shakti does He have the power to create. Without Her, even He cannot move. This highlights that Kamakshi is the very force behind creation, life, and manifestation.
